About

Hi, I’m Lisa.  I enjoy spending time outside and have always been drawn to gardening.  I am a planner and an organizer.  I get a kick out of researching plants, creating simple landscape designs, and making the most of my annual gardening budget.  It’s fun for me to experiment with garden inspired recipes and I’m always down for an easy DIY project.

When I was young, my mom introduced me to gardening and landscape design.  I loved looking through her gardening books and monthly Better Homes and Gardens magazines.  She is responsible for planting the gardening seed in me.  Ba-da-ding.  (Yes, that was a mom joke…not quite as bad as a dad joke.)

Seven years ago, my husband, Robb, and I purchased our first home together.  It is a 1940 colonial style house located in a historic neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio.  We purchased our fixer upper with “good bones” from the original home owner. The interior was covered in dated wallpaper, had a nonworking bathroom, and even had carpet in the kitchen. Yes, that was as disgusting as it sounds.  The landscape and gardens were overgrown with English ivy, invasive honeysuckle, and more varieties of weeds than we could count.

A lot has changed since we first purchased our home.  We now have four children, ranging in age from three to eight years old.  I have stepped away from my teaching profession to stay home with our kids.  At home, we have updated nearly every room in our house and now my attention has moved to our yard and garden.

As I have been spending more time outside in our yard, I have rekindled that love for gardening that my mom planted in me many years ago.  Gardening checks a lot of boxes for me.  It encourages me to be more present and observant.  I pay more attention to the amount of sun in the different areas of our yard and when plants emerge in the spring and eventually flower. There is something therapeutic about having your hands in the soil and toes in the grass.  It feels good to do something physically active and it gives me an outlet to be creative.  To put it simply, gardening just makes me happy.

Transforming our yard has changed the way our family uses our outdoor space.  Our kids want to spend more time outside.  They chase butterflies, pick flowers, and eat herbs directly from the garden.  We spend time pushing trucks through the pebble pit, climbing up the platform, swinging on the hammock, and roasting marshmallows over the fire.  Our outdoor space and garden have allowed us to grow together.

I will share my outdoor design and plans, helpful plant information, garden to table recipes, and easy DIY projects.  I’m glad you are here!
